About

Just a few weeks ago a firestorm raced through the town of Lahaina on my home island of Maui. Afterwards some sought out the culprits, some invented conspiracy theories and some went into fear and desperation. But in the midst of all this, a huge amount of people asked "how can I help" and went immediately to work, collecting and delivering donations, taking people into their homes, searching tirelessly for survivors. These are the people who we rarely hear about in the news and they are the ones who are keeping the world together. We often hear that we need more love and caring in the world, but I believe that it is already here, just not reported enough. Many of my friends have turned off the news, because the fear and despair that it creates for sensitive people is unhealthy. But the downside is that many of these friends are uninformed and fall prey to conspiracy theories and even more fear.Uplift News is creating a new genre of news. We report what is going on, but we discover the positive side of it and create a news media that leaves people happy and energized to take on the monumental task of creating a better tomorrow. While we may be one of the first organizations to change the reporting of news this way, we hope that our approach will influence many other news organizations. In the future we will have a book and a course teaching what we do.
